MSD Jr. NAD members recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the 30th Biennial Jr. NAD conference at the New Mexico School for the Deaf, an event that was truly unforgettable! The conference kicked off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony featuring the remarkable Dr. Jennifer Herbold and the talented Nathan Gomme, setting the tone for an action-packed weekend. In the evening, they welcomed Indigenous guests to participate in a heartfelt Land Acknowledgement, honoring the sacred grounds they were standing on. A New Mexico student took the stage to share his rich culture through a traditional fry bread demonstration, leaving everyone in awe of the delicious aroma and flavors. The next day, they embarked on a refreshing hike through the breathtaking Aspen Vista mountain views, taking in the crisp air and bonding over the stunning scenery. Later, they visited the New Mexico History Museum, where they delved deeper into the rich history and culture that surrounded them throughout the conference. They discovered fascinating stories, artifacts, and exhibits that showcased the state's vibrant heritage. The third day was filled with a variety of engaging workshops and breakout groups, where they learned valuable skills and insights on Leadership and Compassion, Self-Expression, Advocacy, ASL Entertainment, and Ambassador Competition. The conference culminated with a banquet, where they shared their final video projects, a testament to their creativity and hard work. The entire conference embodied Jr. NAD's motto, 'Promoting the tomorrow of all the Deaf by working with the Deaf youth of today,' and left a lasting impact on all the participants.
