Educations Without Limits

Welcome back to MSD for the 2020-2021 school year. Over the past few months, Missouri School for the Deaf has been making preparations and working hard to create spaces and develop guidelines which follow COVID-19 protocols to ensure our students' safety when returning to campus.  Our 2020-2021 school year started on Monday, August 24th, and we are excited to have students back on campus and learning in-person.

COVID-19 Protocols

We have assigned student cohort groups that stay together throughout the entire school day, which reduces their contact with other students and staff on campus. Each cohort remains together for all core subjects with one teacher and then stays together for an elective class with another teacher. Also, precautions are in place for all meal times and for our residential students in the dormitories. MSD has set up ‘check-in’ stations for students and employees in each building to perform health screenings and temperature checks. Throughout campus there are visual reminders for all students and staff. We are all adjusting quickly to the new procedures.

iPads are being assigned to each student and we are utilizing Google Classroom this year. Other programs being utilized for students and staff are Zoom and WebEx. The MSD website is continually being updated to share the latest information. Currently we are looking forward to developing a virtual tour of the MSD campus for prospective and current students, families, alumni, and the community. We are providing a weekly community newsletter every Friday throughout the school year. To sign up for our weekly newsletter please contact our Community Relations Facilitator listed below. For daily information, please check out our Facebook page at @DEAF.EagleMSD.

Campus Improvements

The campus improvements for the past year have been numerous and were completed in a timely manner. Some of the improvements completed include:

  • Installed additional classroom 86” touchscreens
  • New ramps installed behind Central Supply and Kerr Hall
  • Sidewalk replaced in front of campus
  • Dish Network installed throughout campus
  • Rice Hall was cleaned
  • Surplus items were eliminated
  • New windows in the Eagle’s Nest, Administration Building, and Wheeler Hall
  • Painting in both Tate and Kerr dormitories
