Mrs. Ponder's fifth-grade class embarked on their highly anticipated annual field trip to the Missouri State Capitol, a day filled with excitement, learning, and unforgettable experiences. Thanks to the generosity of Senator Fitzwater's office, students and staff were granted exclusive access to the Whispering Gallery, where they marveled at the unique acoustic phenomenon that allows whispers to be heard from over 75 feet away. They also ventured to the top of the dome, where they were treated to breathtaking 360-degree views of the city, a first-time experience for many in the group. The awe-inspiring vistas left them speechless, and the sense of accomplishment was palpable as they gazed out at the stunning panorama. Following this, Mr. Schulte's office arranged a special visit to the House Lounge, where they had the privilege of admiring Thomas Hart Benton's iconic mural, 'A Social History of the State of Missouri.' This masterpiece of American Regionalist art is a testament to the state's rich cultural heritage, and the students were fascinated by the intricate details and symbolism woven throughout the work. The group was then honored to participate in a meet-and-greet with State Representative Jim Schulte on the House floor, an opportunity that allowed them to engage with their elected official and gain insight into the legislative process. After a morning filled with discovery and exploration, the students enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the picturesque Governor's Gardens, surrounded by the beautiful flora and tranquil atmosphere. The afternoon was spent at Deborah Cooper Park on Adrian's Island, where they relaxed in the hammocks, engaged in a game or two of life-sized chess, and reveled in the warm sunshine and serene surroundings. It was a truly unforgettable day that will be etched in their memories for years to come.
