Students Return to KC Comicon

Once again MSD students were able to attend the annual Kansas City Comicon, a convention of fans of comics, gaming, science fiction, anime and pop culture. The convention is the longest running convention in the central United States and this year drew 75,000 people over the three days.

Student crafted costumes and were stopped numerous times through the day by people asking to take their pictures and giving them compliments. Each time this happened, their faces would light up with pride and their confidence grew.

The students were able to see and meet many artisans who create studio quality costumes and learn some of the techniques they use in their craft. In addition, they saw many famous authors of fantasy and science fiction books and writers and illustrators of comics and graphic novels.

The experience allowed the students to experience, firsthand, the pop culture they typically only see you YouTube and movies. Sharing the pop culture they love with 75,000 fellow fans was an exhilarating experience they’ll cherish.
