A small group of students interested in Manga, comics, video games, Cosplay, and pop culture attended the Kansas City Planet Comicon on March 22, 2025. Held in downtown Kansas City at the Convention Center, the event drew over 70,000 attendees over the weekend.

Before the event, several students dedicated many hours to working on their Cosplay costumes, which were costumes of their favorite characters from video games, movies, or comics. They took great pride in their work and even worked until midnight the night before to complete them. This paid off in a big way, as many people at the convention asked for pictures with them or complimented them on their work.

At the convention, they saw many fellow cosplayers, as well as famous artists, and displays featuring their favorite movies and games. All the presenters they interacted with were very generous with their time and explained how they created things, answering all the questions students asked.

This was an incredible experience for these students, one they might not have had otherwise if MSD had not presented the opportunity. The learning opportunities this trip afforded were immense. From managing parking garages, navigating big city streets, dealing with panhandlers, interacting with enormous crowds, speaking with vendors, and responding to compliments, all became valuable learning lessons and teachable moments. The icing on the cake was the incredible fun they had and the memories they made at the convention and as friends.
